Maria Canta
Maria Canta is a collection of home decor, clothing and accessories made in tiny batches by artisans in Brazil and California. Born in 2016, this sustainable economy project was created by visual artist Janine Mapurunga, who collaborates with artisans in her home country Brazil and her chosen home California to create the items. The goal is to sustain artisan communities and preserve traditional crafts.
The extensive collection includes woven cotton hammocks and blankets, comfortable skirts and dresses (with pockets!), beautiful kimonos, blouses, bags and backpacks, jewelry, t-shirts, handmade leather sandals with recycled tire soles and limited edition high quality leather bags. Items are available at local shops and at Janine’s art studio in Sacramento, CA.
